I originally created this 3D animation using Poser. Afterwards I exported the Poser output as a Flash file so it could be displayed in a web browser. To make the video you can see here, which is @18 seconds of the 60 seconds I produced for my HND, took me about 2 months to make. From having an initial idea of what the video should contain, constructing the story boards for it, then learning the concepts of how to create 3D animation using Poser (which was very frustrating at times) and the massive amount of time that was required for constructing it.
Rendering the Poser animation file frequently took over 15 hours, so I often had to leave the computer at college rendering the file overnight (and hope the College cleaners didn't have a reason to disconnect the power from the computer!)
Now, when I watch animated films or cartoons, I appreciate how much effort, time and group work has occurred making them - The Animated cartoon WALL-E had a budget of $180 million - a cast of 300 characters, created by 72 animators involved in the making of the movie during a period of 4 years gives you an insight into the production complexities. Pixar use 'rendering farms' which are basically a large collection of computers that have a sole task- number crunching. I reduced the duration of the word wizard animation for display on this website (60 reduced to about 18 seconds) as the file size of the original Poser file was massive and the quality once it had been optimised for the web looked very amateurish. I firstly exported it from Poser as a Flash file so it could be displayed in a browser then for the cross platform / device compatability, i converted the Flash file to the required formats. Finally the required HTML coding was added. The video length, showing here on this webpage, was sacrificed so the quality of the final product could reflect some of the effort I had made making the animation!
